              The research behind it
              Why you should try it

The latest evidence suggests integrating mindfulness and positive psychology positively impacts well-being, presenting a promising approach for enhancing people's lives and societal flourishing.

              Why it works

The program is adapted from Niemiec's (2014) MBSP by integrating mindfulness and character strengths concepts. MBSP focuses on empowering individuals by recognising and enhancing their positive attributes. It's rooted in Thich Nhat Hanh's mindful living philosophy and Seligman and Peterson's character strength research. MBSP uniquely combines mindfulness with character strengths, offering a powerful synergy in positive psychology. MBSP operates on four fundamental assumptions: individuals can develop their character strengths and mindfulness, these can deepen self-awareness and enrich various aspects of life, practicing MBSP enhances the balanced use of core qualities, and integrating character strengths with mindfulness amplifies the benefits of mindfulness practice and mindful living.

              Evidence that it works

              Wingert, J. R., Jones, J. C., Swoap, R. A., & Wingert, H. M. (2022). Mindfulness-based strengths practice improves well-being and retention in undergraduates: A preliminary randomized controlled trial. Journal of American College Health, 70(3), 783-790.
This study addressed high mental health concerns in universities by exploring the effectiveness of Mindfulness-based Strengths Practice (MBSP) on student well-being and academic outcomes. Conducted with 52 working undergraduates, an 8-week MBSP intervention significantly enhanced well-being, engagement, meaning, and health, as measured by the PERMA-Profiler. Additionally, the intervention group showed slightly higher retention rates in the subsequent academic year. This marks the first evidence supporting MBSP's potential to positively impact college student well-being and retention, emphasizing its importance in addressing mental health challenges on campuses.
              Time Required

              How to Do It

Mindfulness for Students itself is designed to be used by everyone and anywhere, and by doing so respects the simple beauty of practicing mindfulness.

Having said that their are some tips which include creating best environment to get the most of this mindfulness practice:
              • Before playing the guided mindfulness video, check that whatever device you are playing it from allows you to see and hear clearly

              • Make yourself before you start the practice that you are in a comfortable setting. A classroom, a library or your own calm space, where you won't be easily distracted will help

              • The position you practice mindfulness is very important. Seated on a chair is one of the greatest positions to properly practice mindfulness in. If you are seated, make sure the chair you are in is firm and supportive.
Remember, with mindfulness, it is not about getting it right or wrong, but rather the practice itself and taking time for you to connect with the present moment.
